demo-ing

In November, I took one of my projects to my local quilt store to try and match some fabric. Lucky for me, the owner of the store happened to be the one who cut my fabric for me. She asked to see my project, and I gladly shared. After much exclamation and showing the piece to most of the other workers, she asked me to do a demonstration in the upcoming semester. I was extremely flattered and had some trepidation, but decided to try it. I filled out the form and was accepted, and turned in my sample work to be displayed the day before Christmas.

A few weeks ago, I got the store newsletter in my inbox and was so excited to see my name in print and a picture of my work in the classroom.

Saturday January 31st, 3 free demo's!
Have some time to learn something new, come in and spend the day at the
store with Mary, Fairlight and Patricia.
Joy Pillow: 10:30 (light appliqué)
A Scrappy name Pillow: 12:30 (decorative pillow)
Bow Ties: 2:30 (fifth dimensional four patch)

I arrived bright and early to catch the demo before me, just to see how it all goes.
Turns out to be pretty simple. :) Two of the ladies from the 1st demo stayed to watch mine, and another lady arrived just in time to listen. Thankfully, they were all very dear and put up with my nervous ramblings, they asked questions and seemed to genuinely enjoy the whole process. God bless sweet ladies with patience! I had a lot of fun and was very excited to share the "making-of" process of one of my favorite things.
After it was all said and done, I was talking to the lady who handles the classes and demo's and she asked me if I would like to do a class and a demo on any two things of my choosing in March. I couldn't say "yes!" fast enough.

So now I have until next Saturday to get my pattern ideas for both class and demo to her and a week and a half to get my finished pieces to her. Deadlines! Deadlines!
But I'm excited and I can't wait. Maybe a start of something new.
I love hanging out at this amazing store and now getting to be a {very small} part of their team.

By the way, I have 8 pillows in various states of production from this demo, and will hopefully get them finished up and in the shop soon!

oooh so great Fairlight.
I love these pillows and love that you have the opportunity to host more demos in the future. Hoping the excitement of all this chases away those wintery blues :)
