a scrappy fabric swap

What: a swap of fabric scraps, three partners, 10-15 scraps to each person, get your scraps, then scramble them up, and make a small scrappy gift to send back to each of your three partners. (Scraps must not be smaller than 5 inches in length.) After it's all over you should still have some scraps leftover for yourself.

When: sign up from now until Oct. 15, have your 1st packages (full of scraps) sent out by Oct. 24th, and then have your 2nd packages (with a small handmade gift) sent out by Nov. 21st.

Where: Send us an email at domestic.b@hotmail.com with your full name, address, e-mail, and blog address

We will send out your swap partners on the evening of the 15th. Please be prompt and stay up with the deadlines. We want everyone to have their finished gifts by Thanksgiving!

We will be having several post of scrappy gift ideas for you to take inspiration from.

Showers of Blessings

A few weeks ago, a little secret started.
A secret that would totally bless the sock off of one our our much loved friends.
Lesile, our friend, has been dealing with a very difficult pregnancy
which at times has been very scary and least of all, extremely trying to body and soul.
So a couple of people had an idea to throw Leslie a "bloggity baby shower."
We've kept it a secret, made lots of plans, and had the most amazing fun
pulling this all together to surprise her.
And today is the the day!
This evening at 11pm EST the secret blog, Showers of Blessings,
is going LIVE! and will be open to the public.
Some come over and see what we've been up to,
participate in the games (there are 3 going on)
and leave Leslie a good wish.

Watch the slide show that Dawna has so lovingly put together,
help yourself to some virtual mudpie brownies,
and join in on the chat.
It's sure to be a blast.

One of our games was to write a poem or a few verses
for Leslie (you can see the original idea here)
but because of the response to the game,
the organizer has asked each of us
to post our verse on our own blog.
I am by no means gifted in this area,
so please don't laugh.
It is truly heart felt.

For God's grace we prayed
a healthy family of four,
growing a miracle
so much adored
the "love-at-first-sight"
oh so tiny and sweet
with ten finger and toes
and a soft downy head.
Waiting with hope
and much anticipation
covered by prayer
and relying on Jesus

Can it truly be the 1st day of October?
The calendar tells me it really is, but my mind is struggling to believe it.
We still rise to the 80's during the day
but the nights are cooling
and there is something,
just something
about the afternoon light.
Shall we say it glows?

I have so many thing I want to do this month
and next
that I suppose I should make a to-do list
or rather a "want-to" list,
like this lovely lady's.
This list and this list are pretty awesome too.

~ make an apple pie and share it with friends

~ plan a pumpkin decorating party ala Mary Engelbreit style
~ go to the pumpkin patch, ride on the wagon, feed the goats, and climb some hay bales.
~ plan a Harvest party for October 31st
~ make lots of pumpkin waffles
~ go on a nature walk to collect fall specimens for our nature shelf
~ have my 1st ever maternity photo-shoot
~ take advantage of the cooling weather and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the back porch
~ make a pumpkin shaped cake using this recipe
~ finish knitting the brown and cream striped scarf I started while I was pregnant
~ decorate the house for autumn
~make root vegetable stew
~ make thrifted sweater pillows for the living room for winter
~ work on Christmas presents
~ finish up the quilt to be entered in the Fair
~ finish matting the pictures to be entered in the Fair
~ take a picnic to Charles Town Landing and enjoy the salty breeze
~ dress up in our cold weather clothes and take some fun pictures, even if it's 85 outside
~ take a color seeking drive, I think here, here, or here would be good
~ address our Christmas cards
~ make applesauce muffins
~ go to a corn maze, I've never been to one before but it sounds like fun
~ take pictures of the girls in their cute matching outfits
~ abduct all the good autumn and Thanksgiving books from the library (kids and adults)
~ travel to new places
~ go camping with friends and enjoy cooking breakfast over an open fire on a chilly morning
~ make a fall banner to hang across the dining room window
~ finish up some of my sewing "to do" list before the Christmas crunch
~ plan a totally cute birthday part for a little someone who will soon be turning 1 (!)
~ make a small scrapbook full of graduation pictures as a graduation gift for my brother
~ put together some new cute fall-ish outfits for me (suggestions welcome!)
~ eat lots of oatmeal
~ make turkey hands of the girls and save forever
~ shoot my 1st ever home birth (who am I kidding? it's my 1st everything)
~ firm up our Thanksgiving plans and make a most delicious menu
~ enjoy the all to quickly passing days with my dear husband and sweet little girls

our weekend

We had a lovely weekend. Great weather, lots of fun, and just hanging out.
We went downtown Charleston and visited the quilt store, the Farmer's Market, and just walked around taking pictures and playing in the fountains.
We drove over to Mount Pleasant and ate lunch at Whole Foods which was lovely.
It was great to just be together, have some down time, and enjoy the day.
